Is an online school right for you? E-mail

Is an online school right for you? (ARA) - Would you like to earn a college degree, but feel like you just don't have the time? An online degree program could be just what you need. Online degree programs can give you the freedom to earn a degree without interrupting your current obligations. On the other hand, if you enjoy face-to-face interaction, this type of program may not be right for you.

Those are a few things to take into consideration as you're trying to find an ideal learning option. Here are some more advantages and drawbacks of online learning:

Advantages of online learning

* You can leave your car at home - When you take classes through online schools, you can save the gas money that would go toward your commute. You can also save more money by not paying for a parking permit.

* You can learn in the comfort of your own home - Online classes allow you to study in a comfortable and inviting environment - your home. You won't have to worry about missing out on family time or even fret about learning the layout of a campus.

* Your learning is suited to your comfort level - Some people avoid social situations like the plague, and that is OK. If you don't like large crowds or big lecture halls, an online degree program may be perfect for you. You can learn alone in the privacy of your own home.

Disadvantages of online learning

* Procrastinators need not apply - Since you will be learning by yourself, you will need to stay focused in order to complete your online classes successfully. You have to be accountable for getting your work done on time. If you have trouble managing your time, an online program might not be right for you.

* Your credits might not transfer - It's a good idea to make sure that your credits will transfer should you decide to further your education. Also, be sure that any certification you earn can be used nationwide. You don't want to invest all that time and hard work only to find out that the certification you've earned can only be used in the state that the school is in.

* You need to be computer literate - Yes, this of course is essential to the success of your online degree program. You need to be comfortable working with a computer since you will rely on it for most - or all - of your coursework. You may also need to upgrade your Internet speed or buy additional equipment like a Web cam, so it's good to know your way around a computer before you start your online degree program.
